What does a typical day look like?

Children arrive and come inside at 9am

At 9:15am we begin an hour of sit-down learning, where we try and cover maths and reading.  Often this will mean that children work from their own material that they bring each day, with help and support from myself or Gabrielle in the form of group or individual tutoring.  Sometimes this will be switched for art and sometimes for games that promote maths and / or reading skills.

This will end around 10:15am when we go on an outing (daily). Outings will vary but will include gardening, bike riding, hiking, fort-building, berry picking, exploring the creeks and river, town trips to the museum, gallery, library etc. We will eat a snack whilst on our outing. The method of transportation will be feet!

At around 12:00-12:15pm we will return home for our daily mindfulness segment. This will include a small journal entry, a short yoga session and breathing focus.

At around 12:45pm we will begin lunch with a (non-religious) prayer of gratitude. Lunch evolves into story time as the teachers read through some of the library books we pick each week on our outing.

At 1:30pm all children are picked up.

Healthy snacks and lunches are provided by parents.

Wednesdays

Please note Wednesdays are extra special! Every Wednesday will be a mixed age day with young children (3/4 years old) and elementary age. The older children will be ‘teaching’ the younger children in the first hour – either reading books to them, teaching them art skills, using flashcards to teach numbers… to name just a few options!. Children will be paired up throughout the day with a buddy.
